Canada is the second largest country in the world (Sovjet Union is the largest). Only 2% from the country is populated and most of these people live in the five big cities: Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Ottawa and Edmonton. De other 98% is practically without any population. That is were there is the real wilderness. Although wood and oil industry in Alberta is taking over more and more from this beautiful nature.Canada is well known because of its’ imposing mountains, ancient forests, plateaus and more than thousand lakes.

This land has great highways going through the most beautiful areas. The Icefields Parkway, which leads you through Banff and Jasper National Parks, is one of the most beautiful and famous ones. The views are just breathtaking and it is really too bad you have to leave this behind you to spend the night somewhere. Wouldn’t it be great to stay and see the sun set, hear nature getting still, just some sounds of the night? Then when the morning dew is still hanging over the land, see the sun rise ? These are the moments you feel One with nature. You can have all those moments when you go camping in Canada. This country is exceptionally suited for that and………………..do not forget to take unbelievable pictures.

A suggestion for the people who come by plane, for example from Europe: it is very handy to take two pieces of luggage. One you can use for your camping equipment. You do not need to take a gas burner, they sell them at any Canadian Tire.

Canada has three different kind of campgrounds: the ones in the National Parks, the Provincial ones and the private ones. The campgrounds in the National Parks and the Provincial ones are from the Government. These are simple, but on the most beautiful spots you can think of. They are easy accessible by car, because they are mostly visited by RV’s. This is the reason that the spots are very spacious and far apart from each other. So even when it is busy, you still get the idea there is no one else around you.At a lot of the campsites you also have “walk-in-sites”.Those are sites that are further from the road where you have to park your car at the beginning and walk the last part with your camping equipment. So you are really surrounded by the wilderness. On most of these sites is no hot running water, always cold though. No showers either, so you will enjoy all of this “luxury” again first time you get to a hotel instead of a campground.

Every campsite has picnic tables and there is a spot to have a campfire (with a supply of wood). A lot of these places are inspected each morning: they clean up the burned wood and take away food leftovers, because of the danger of bears “hanging around”. That day when you come back you can find a note or warning that you better clean up your stuff next time. As they say: “leave nothing behind, only your footsteps.”Canada is very proud of their campgrounds.
