Finding a sense of home in the world of today
Where is home? Where do you feel at home, where do you get a sense of home?
It can be anywhere in the world. As long as you get the feeling of belonging. Sometimes this happens by meeting new, wonderful people, a city, country or area that really feels comfortable to you or ….. you cannot exactly describe why you get that nice, warm fuzzy feeling.
In the world of today more people are relocating, moving or immigrating than ever. And it always comes along with do I get that same feeling of belonging again? Or how, in what way do I get that feeling again. What can I (or we) do to make this transition and feel at home again?
Very important will be good manners, the etiquette. Manners, etiquette have to do with respect and being non-judgmental about other people.
It will make you feel at home, if you feel good about yourself. What makes you feel good? It makes you feel good, if you know how to behave in every situation, in every country and this happens if you know the rules and manners. If you know the etiquette: business etiquette, communication etiquette, social etiquette, international etiquette and more.
We, a family from the Netherlands found our sense of home again after immigration to the South coast of Canada. We started our own business and bought a motel.
And as long as you feel good, mentally, physically and especially have your peace of mind, you will get that sense of home. But it helps a lot to know the written and "unwritten" rules and customs.
Will Canada give You that sense of home?
Where business can be handled at breakfast. Where they load their water glasses with ice.. Where they eat at odd hours.
We assumed a lot of things to be the same in another country. Not true. It takes a while before you get used to and understand different customs and ways things are done. Or not done. You have to get a feeling of a different society while you are trying to settle in.
How do you get that? By finding out and learning the etiquette of this country.
Staying in contact with family and/or friends will certainly help. And finding people who are in the same situation, or have been in that situation.
Living close to the border certainly has its' advantages, the Canadian/US border that is. Every time when we cross the border it would hit me when they asked:
Where is home?
Of course I feel like saying:"Where the heart is". But that will not get you through Customs.
But where is home?
Home is the most important place in the world. A place where you feel welcome, relaxed, at peace and where you can be YOU.
This will not happen overnight. Certainly not when it is a big move you make.
Will America give you a sense of home? Or maybe the Netherlands? Want to know about their etiquette and how they do and think about certain matters?
I want you to get your sense of home again, where ever you are or going to be, feel good and feel confident.
Live with attention, wisdom and compassion.
